Ahreft site overview showing 100% health score

I bought brightjasper.com on September 16, 2026, with a simple goal: build an educational tech blog and portfolio that ranks in Google and gets cited by AI answer engines, not just indexed and forgotten.

Within a day, Google Search Console reported the URL as not indexed, and an Ahrefs audit put the site's health score at 33%, with 55-58 crawl errors. Every page was canonicalizing to the root domain instead of itself, which meant search engines had no clear signal for which page was which - a structural problem that can block indexing regardless of content quality.

The problem

  • Google: "URL is not on Google/Cannot be indexed"
  • Ahrefs health score: 33%, with 55-58 errors
  • Canonical chaos: every URL pointed back to the root instead of itself

What I fixed

  • Canonical tags - corrected each page to self-reference instead of collapsing into the homepage.
  • Sitemap and robots.txt - cleaned up and resubmitted them for proper crawl coverage.
  • On-page structure - rebuilt the H1/H2 hierarchy with AEO and GEO in mind, so content is legible to both search crawlers and AI summarizers.
  • Metadata and social previews - shortened an overlong project meta description, made Open Graph URLs match each page's canonical URL, and replaced the favicon-style OG fallback with a public image.
  • Indexing and discovery - added an llms.txt file for AI-friendly discovery and pushed updates through Search Console and Cloudflare rather than waiting on a passive recrawl.

Result - 72-hour timeline

Why it matters

SEO is not just about ranking in blue links anymore. Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) - getting cited inside AI-generated answers - runs on many of the same fundamentals: clean crawlability, unambiguous canonical signals, and structure that is easy to parse.

Fixing the boring technical layer is what makes the content layer discoverable at all. A site cannot earn trust from search engines or answer engines when its URLs, metadata, and content hierarchy are sending mixed signals.

What this demonstrates

This project demonstrates technical SEO audits, on-page SEO, canonical and indexing fixes, metadata cleanup, structured content, and GEO optimization for blogs, portfolios, and startups. The same foundations work across industries and niches.
